In addition to the tangible benefits that members receive, membership in the North American Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy offers individuals the opportunity to support or be actively involved in communications, programs and, most importantly, research in the field of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. The NASSHP is involved in activities that encourage medical professionals to increase their own knowledge and the research community, now and in the future:

Our society conferences—provide the opportunity to participate in and attend presentations on research in the latest practices in clinical care and advancements in preeclampsia research

Advocacy—participating with other societies and organizations in science policy initiatives and furthering research

News publications—being a central source for news of interest and value to members, the profession and the general public

From the President of the NASSHP:
“[I have] genuine optimism for what the next ten years of research will bring, and the ever present cautious optimism that we are always inching closer to understanding the cause(s) of preeclampsia and therefore perhaps a cure or reasonable predictive test. Globally, preeclampsia and other hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are a leading cause of maternal and infant illness and death, accounting for 76,000 maternal and 500,000 infant deaths each year. Therefore, all progress is important and even incremental advances may provide a large benefit.

The NASSHP exists in order to organize, promote and encourage knowledge, education and research regarding all aspects of hypertensive complications of pregnancy, and encourages interaction and collaboration between investigators in this field across North America and Internationally. The NASSHP welcomes new membership applications to everyone involved in this field of research across North America.”

Member Testimonials:

“The NASSHP is a great way to keep on the cutting edge of preeclampsia-related research, identify new areas of investigation, and develop new and exciting collaboration.  It is wonderful to work with a group that is committed to improving outcomes for pregnant women through a better understanding of preeclampsia and related disorders.” ~Arun Jeyabalan, MD, MSCR, University of Pittsburgh, Magee-Womens Research Institute
